Summary
The Definition of Real is a short experimental film that explores the shifting, fragile boundary between the natural, the constructed, and the consumed. Through the journey of a single egg, a potent symbol of inherent reality, the film asks whether "reality" is something that exists in its raw state, or if it is constructed, immortalised, or consumed.
Narrative + Process
By weaving together raw footage, AI-generated visuals, painterly references, and an evolving soundscape, the film blurs distinctions until the categories themselves collapse. The Definition of Real does not offer an answer, it lingers, simmers, and unsettles, asking the audience to taste the question long after the screen fades to black.
-
Part I: The Natural: The film opens by establishing the egg as a symbol of pure, untouched reality. Through raw footage and natural light, we see the egg in its most organic state, representing an inherent truth.
-
Part II: The Constructed: A physical and digital transformation begins. As the egg is cracked and cooked, AI-generated visuals seamlessly blend with the raw footage. The pan's surface morphs into the intricate patterns of a microprocessor, creating a visual metaphor for the constructed, man-made reality we live in.
-
Part III: The Consumed & Immortalized: The film concludes on a final, visceral shot of the discarded dishes, a tangible remnant of the consumed reality.
